The saying goes that a picture is worth a thousand words. This is surely multiplied in the case of Holy Icons. For the Orthodox Holy Icons are theology in color just as the Holy Scriptures are theology in word. However, Holy Icons are not merely religious art portraying passages of Holy Scripture. They are earthly windows to the heavenly realm. They carry our spirit & soul where we cannot bodily yet go.

I have featured many different Holy Icons for the Nativity of our Lord in the past few blog articles. The above image explains many of the features common to them. This was posted by a Facebook friend who claimed that he found this on the internet sometime last year.
